Fire Explorers

The fire explorer program is open to young men and
woman ages 14 - 20 who want to learn about the fire service through hands
on, practical and classroom evolutions. Under the guidance of the members
of the Pelham Fire Dept explorers will learn all aspects of the Fire
Department, from training and day-to-day operations to fire tactics to
emergency medical care. After completing a training program explorers will
be able to ride along on the fire apparatus and ambulance.
Some areas that Explorers will be trained in are
- Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Hand tools
- Fire Scene Operations
- Fire Prevention
- Basic Emergency Medical care / Ambulance Operations
- Forestry / Brush Fire Operations
- CPR Certification
Once the initial training is complete the explorers will be able to assist
on emergency scenes. While you can’t go into a burning building you will
be able to assist on the scene with getting equipment, salvage and
overhaul, work with the CERT Team on Rehab, and helping get the trucks and
equipment back in service.
We will also be working on putting together fire related field trips and
guest speakers, as well as joint training events and competitions with
other explorer posts.
